Functional Patterns is a biomechanics methodology founded by Naudi Aguilar. It is a results-driven system focused on correcting imbalances, enhancing functional movement patterns, & optimising biomechanics to improve overall human performance. In doing so, the risk of injury from training is significantly reduced, all while paving the way to getting people living & moving better than ever.

In today’s world, we believe the main health crisis we face stems from our disconnection from nature. Modern living has disrupted our natural rhythms & movement patterns, leading to pain & dysfunction.

So how can we achieve balance, in an imbalanced world? The answer is really quite straightforward: our health depends on how well we adapt to the natural environment. Therefore, the more harmoniously we coexist with nature, the healthier & more resilient we become. For humans, this means returning to the beneficial aspects of our evolutionary past that made us strong, capable & healthy to begin with.

The blueprint is there, and Functional Patterns has been dedicated to cracking this code since 2006. Syncing the physics of our natural environment to our health is what produces the consistent results we are known for.

WHAT MAKES FP DIFFERENT?

What makes Functional Patterns different to all the other training methods out there? Functional Patterns is about training organisms in relation to their biological characteristics.

Sound a bit complicated? Let’s break it down. At a basic level, it simply means no matter what animal you choose to train, you do it with the foremost goal of optimising its primary functions. Fish swim, birds fly, & dogs walk on four legs.

So what do humans do? According to leading research, standing, walking, running, & throwing were the four most important movements for human survival.

These movements have become known as the FP First 4.

These movements are what experts describe as 'bipedal' (i.e. two-legged) & revolve around the 'contralateral reciprocation' (i.e. coordination of opposite limbs) of the arms & legs. These are just fancy words to describe how humans create force to move themselves or an object from point 'A' to point 'B'.

Learning these terms is not necessarily important, but the implications these concepts have on the way we should exercise is paramount if we are to train the body in a way that respects millions of years of evolution.

Every motion in the Functional Patterns system is oriented around these concepts & the FP First 4. This is the logical basis & starting point of why Functional Patterns practitioners achieve unmatched results all across the globe. By training to optimise these four human functions, achieving better health is not a gamble, but an inevitability.
